Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Answers to frequently asked questions about NYC printing services by Print Zone NYC including high-quality digital printing, large format printing, and more.

What type of file can I send?

We prefer print-ready single-page PDF (Portable Document Format) files with the outlined fonts. You may also send the file in the following types: jpg, jpeg, psd, tif, tiff, eps, ai, and png. These files are easier to handle and will likely speed up your turn-around. Remember to add crop marks (.125″ offset) & Bleed (.125″). flatten your files before uploading. Please beware that Word doc files to reflow.

What are the PDF Export Settings?
When using Indesign to export your pdf files, please use the setting below

What is Bleed?
Bleed is printing that goes beyond the edge of where the sheet will be trimmed off. The bleed is the part on the side of a document that gives the printer a small amount of space to account for “printer bounce” movement of the paper, and design inconsistencies when cutting the order to final size. Failing to provide bleed and crop marks can result in finished pieces showing a thin area of white on the edge. A standard US bleed is 0.125″, or 1/8 of an inch.
What is Safety?

Safety is the area inside your document where all important text and images are situated at least 1/8″ from the final trim size. Any elements outside the ‘safe’ area are at risk of being cut into when the printed items are trimmed due to possible variations in the trim position.

What is Rich Black?

Rich black is a mixture of solid black, 100% K, with additional CMY values. We recommend using: C-60 M-40 Y-40 K-100 This will result in a darker tone rich looking black than black alone. If you print black alone as 100% K, the resulting black may not be as dark as you may like.

What color mode should I submit files?

Always start and finish your designs in CMYK ( 4-color process ) color mode. Your document Color mode should also be set up in CMYK to avoid variations in the printing. Please note that you may see shifts in color when converting RGB color mode to CMYK.

Should we add borders to jobs?

We do NOT recommend borders. However, if you believe it’s necessary then we suggest your border be 1/4” from the cut line ( edge ). If your border is too close to the cut line, there is a risk that a part of the border can get cut off or look uneven as there may be a shift of up to 1/8″ when cutting/printing.

Can I submit front and back in the same file?

Yes. We request 2 sided jobs be submitted as a multiple page pdf.
